Man found alive after search of reservoir

BROWNSVILLE — A man who went missing Monday was found alive late yesterday afternoon, shortly after a dive team searched a Cameron County reservoir near Olmito.

A search began for the 25-year-old on Monday afternoon after authorities discovered his vehicle and clothing nearby.

He was found alive yesterday in the brush along Guelker Road and was transported by EMS to a local hospital, authorities said.

The man was being treated for self-inflicted wounds from a machete, according to Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio.

The Brownsville Fire Department dive team was called to help the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department search after the deputies discovered bloody clothing near the bank of a nearby resaca.

The search took place at a reservoir on the 26700 block of Rice Tract Road near FM 1577, northwest of Rancho Viejo.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter was brought in to search the area from above.
