City to unveil memorial for Manuel Lara

SAN BENITO — Before city leaders meet to discuss city business today, they will unveil a memorial that has been built in memory of former City Manager Manuel Lara.

Lara died unexpectedly last summer.

For the past few months, city commissioners have been actively planning to erect a memorial in Lara’s name.

Lara served the city for more than seven years.

The unveiling will take place at 4:30 p.m. on the front steps of City Hall.

After the unveiling, city leaders will move into their regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m.

City commissioners will discuss this year’s Resaca Fest, street maintenance, the wetlands project and a future event honoring Vietnam veterans.

City leaders will hear the final reading and vote on approving the San Benito Comprehensive Plan, which consists of the downtown revitalization plan and the parks and recreation plan.

The plans are expected to be a guide for the city’s future development over the next 20 years.

City leaders will consider approving the solicitation of donations from various local vendors for various events sponsored by the police department, consider purchasing furniture for the patrol division and consider an agreement between the city and police department regarding Operation Stonegarden.

Lastly, the commission will discuss renovating the city’s animal shelter located at 1400 Line 20.
