Michelle Meier and her two daughters, Cora and Leila, were some of the first in line at the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District Back to School Fair on Thursday morning.
The two girls got excited when they saw the piles of uniforms in the distance.
“This is really a blessing for those of us that cannot afford new uniforms,” Meier said. “It shows our school district is very involved with how they prepare their children for an education.”
The fair was held at the Los Fresnos United Dome located on FM 803. The school district gave away 1,500 uniforms, jackets and sweaters, and 450 backpacks with school supplies. Each child received two uniforms and a choice of a sweater or jacket.
Along the way, parents received information from 54 programs, including many healthcare providers.
Manuel Almamza, parental involvement coordinator, said the event was a way to show the parents the school district was there for them.
“We’re a small community, and we take pride in being together. That’s something we try to promote throughout the program, and I think that’s what makes us different from other places,” Almanza said.
