Pay raise: Interim city manager ready to keep moving forward

LA FERIA — Interim City Manager Esmeralda Sanchez’s pay will rise to $80,000 to compensate her for her added city duties.

City commissioners voted unanimously to give her a raise while they seek a new city manager.

Sanchez will also continue in her role as La Feria city secretary.

“I’m okay with it,” Sanchez said. “It’s fair.”

City Commissioner Victor Gonzalez made the motion to increase Sanchez’s pay by $23,000 from $57,000 to $80,000 effective immediately.

The decision occurred at Tuesday’s meeting.

Mayor Olga H. Maldonado did not attend the meeting.

Sanchez, 44, is filling the position left vacant by the firing of longtime city manager Sunny Philip earlier this month.
