Train derailment causes traffic headache

HARLINGEN — It took almost all day to clear away the remnants of a derailed train yesterday.

The derailment wreaked havoc on travelers around the city all day long.

Early yesterday morning, two train cars slipped off the tracks near C Street and Adams Avenue, causing road closures in several locations.

The affected roads were:

– Adams Avenue

– 1st Street

– 3rd Street

– 7th Street

– 13th Street

– 77 Sunshine Strip

The roads were blocked off to traffic for most of the day.

Crews were still on the scene cleaning up debris at 5 p.m. yesterday.

At that time, police said crews were working to clean up debris and almost ready to reopen the roads.

The police department and Texas Railroad Commission will continue to investigate.
