Health issues force Port Isabel police chief to retire

PORT ISABEL – The city of Port Isabel announced police chief Gilberto “Wally” Gonzalez will be taking medical leave effective August 8 to address health issues.

Following the completion of his medical leave he will be retiring from the city as police cheif.

Port Isabel City Manager Jared Hockema appointed retired Texas Ranger Tony David as police chief.

The appointment must be approved by the city commission at the next meeting.
