Mother accused of leaving young kids in car at H-E-B

HARLINGEN – Police arrested a woman accused of leaving her two young children in the car while she was at the grocery store.

Wednesday night officers were called to the H-E-B parking lot on Commerce Street where they saw two children ages six and seven in a vehicle.

After talking to the children the officers found the mother 33-year-old Julia Ann Battaglia.

Police say Battaglia exposed her children to an unreasonable risk of harm and danger by leaving them alone in the car.

Battaglia also had an outstanding warrant for theft in Hidalgo County so she was arrested and taken to the city jail. She was arraigned on two counts of abandoning and endangering a child. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Police said Child Protective Services was notified of the incident. The children were turned over to their father.
