SB commission looking to encourage residents to attend meetings

SAN BENITO — Residents are encouraged to get to know their City Commission.

One way city officials say you can do that is by attending monthly City Commission meetings. You can also watch the meeting live on the city’s website.

This week, city commissioners will be discussing several items regarding pressing city matters.

This evening, commissioners will update the community on phase two of the skate park project.

Several weeks ago, San Benito opened its new skate pad.

The small cement slab that includes four pieces of equipment is minimal but, according to city officials, is just the beginning.

The four pieces of equipment consist of a grind box or skate edge, two rails and a skate bench.

Parks and Recreation Director Art Garza has been tasked with working with the city’s engineering firm to develop the second phase of the skate park.

Commissioners will also discuss several city projects, including the downtown street lighting project and street maintenance.

The city leaders will also take action on a $95,445 payment for street utility improvements and consider a resolution authorizing the mayor or her designee to approve the application and acceptance of any Local Border Star grant funds.
