Parking of big trucks damaging city roads

HARLINGEN — Some tractor-trailers are squeezing into narrow neighborhood streets, tearing up asphalt and posing safety hazards across parts of District 4.

City ordinance prohibits commercial trucks from parking on streets longer than 24 hours during a 14-day period.

But some truckers are parking their rigs along streets like Buchanan Avenue, First Street, Lincoln Avenue, M Street and Filmore Avenue, City Commissioner Ruben de la Rosa, who oversees District 4, said yesterday.

“They’re scattered all over the district,” de la Rosa said. “I’m trying to preserve the streets of District 4.”
