HARLINGEN — Galo Gonzales didn’t wait for officials to cut the ribbon along the city’s newest trail.
The Harlingen Hometown Heroes Trail already is his favorite.
“It seems like a much better trail,” Gonzales said Monday while at Pendleton Park.
After years of planning, city leaders will officially open the lighted, one-mile trail Thursday.
“It’s going to be a huge addition to our parks system,” parks Director Javier Mendez said.
The city used a $400,000 grant from the Legacy Foundation to build the city’s first fully-lighted trail.
The trail, which begins at the Veterans Memorial, winds along the park featuring a tree-lined pond, tennis courts and swimming pool.
