Lyford proposes increase in rates

LYFORD — Residents are bracing for bigger utility bills.

City officials are proposing average monthly increases in water and garbage rates to keep up with costs.

Within city limits, monthly residential water rates are proposed to climb from a $17 minimum to a $23 minimum for up to 2,000 gallons.

Outside city limits, those rates are proposed to jump from a $26 minimum to $32 for up to 2,000 gallons.

Officials are proposing boosting water rates after the Delta Lake irrigation district increased its rates in January.

Garbage rates also might jump.

Inside city limits, officials are proposing raising garbage rates from $16.50 for a 96-gallon cart to $21.59.

Outside city limits, rates might climb from $20 for a 96-gallon cart to $26.74.

Officials are proposing raising garbage rates after Allied Waste announced plans to increase its rates in September.
