Fourteen Special Education students proudly represented San Benito CISD at the 2016 Special Olympics Texas Summer Games at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Collectively, the student athletes brought home 28 awards, including three gold, nine silver, and three bronze medals.
This year’s coaches include Special Olympics Coordinator Rick Tamez, Belinda Perez, Cindy Puente, Davis Ezell, Gabriel Gonzalez, Jesus Zuñiga, Maria Nora Cisneros, Melanie Gonzalez, Melissa V. Deleon, and Robert Romero.
Committed to the Special Olympics motto, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,” the local Special Olympics Program empowers special education students to become physically fit, productive, and respected members of society through sports training and competition.
