SAN BENITO — San Antonio Spurs NBA Champion Bruce Bowen will be coming to the Valley June 19 to reach families in South Texas with a message on fatherhood and faith.
Bowen spent 14 years in the NBA. In 2000, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs, beginning his illustrious eight-year relationship where he would establish himself as one of the NBA’s best defenders and perimeter shooters.
When announcing his retirement in San Antonio at the age of 38, he said “It’s not how you start but how you finish.” Bowen’s career has been very successful; he is a three-time NBA champion, an analyst for ESPN, and hosts the NBA Lockdown podcast.
Bowen is also a leader and community activist.
He is currently a member of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio where he is actively involved in combating childhood obesity.
He has spoken to audiences at churches regarding his life experiences as an NBA player and the impact that his faith has made on him personally.
Senior Pastor Jaime Loya, who invited Bowen to speak at his church, said, “We are excited to be hosting Bruce Bowen at Cross Church this Father’s Day. He is a remarkable NBA Champion and Christian.

Cross Church is a non-denominational and multicultural church in San Benito with more than 21 years of serving countless families across South Texas. The church continues to be a resource to the community offering youth, family and community oriented services.
