Conjunto artist Gilberto Limon to play at Narciso Center

SAN BENITO — The Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center presents bajo sexto artist and vocalist extraordinaire Gilberto Limon for its 3rd Thursday Conjunto Nites at the Chicho.

At 46 years of age Gilberto is a person who seriously speaks as to how he gained the ability to master the bajo sexto as well as develop one of the best voices in conjunto music.

While he has not yet received the notoriety he deserves in his 38 years of playing conjunto music, Gilberto can be defined as a diamond in the rough waiting to be polished into that special moment of his invaluable skill of playing the bajo sexto and singing.

It was at the age of 8 years old, after going to conjunto dances with his parents, that he began to absorb the spirit of conjunto music.

He states that instead of running around the dance hall with the other kids he would stand in front of the stage absorbing the sounds of the accordion and bajo sexto.

Gilberto’s childhood days were spent in the barrio of La Gallina in San Benito.
