Upscale: New hotel expected to draw interest

RAYMONDVILLE — After more than two years of construction, a Holiday Inn Express hotel is open here.

The 72-room hotel opened next to the Raymondville Plaza last week with 12 employees.

Catalina Ozuna, executive director of the Raymondville Economic Development Corporation, said the hotel plans to hire a staff of as many as 25 employees as business picks up.

EDC board member George Solis called the four-floor hotel a $6 million investment.

“It’s beautiful,” Ozuna said. “It’s very elegant.”

Ozuna said the hotel will help attract travelers who stop at upscale hotels.

Holiday Inn Express hotels also have federal and state contracts that will help draw government employees to the hotel, she said.

“We’re going to get people who are interested in staying in that hotel,” she said.

Ozuna said the hotel includes two presidential suites, featuring living rooms, bars and kitchens.

“It’s a full-blown apartment,” Ozuna said.
