Hawks shut out Cardinals 9-0 in season finale, sweep season series

HARLINGEN — Aside from trying to salvage a bit of pride, the latest game between the Harlingen South Hawks and Harlingen Cardinals had nothing at stake.

At least for the Hawks, they were able to pick up the season sweep of the Cards after a 9-0 shutout win Tuesday night at Harlingen field.

The Hawks put up three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as their freshman pitcher Nick Muniz held the Cards to just three hits on the night.

“The score didn’t reflect the game too much, but I think my pitcher Nick (Muniz) did a good job,” South head coach Tony Leal said. “He’s a freshman and he came out in front of a good crowd and pitches like that — hats off to him for throwing some good pitches and having a good time.”

Muniz pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits, striking out six and walking four.
