HARLINGEN — As unexpected midnight guests go, things could have been worse.
There were few reports of damage yesterday from a fast-moving weather front that rocketed over the Rio Grande Valley from the southwest to the northeast Monday night.
At Valley International Airport, the National Weather Service clocked a wind gust at 59 mph just after midnight. But just 0.7 inches of rain was recorded, said Jim Reynolds, chief meteorologist for the weather service in Brownsville.
“I think the storms pretty much went to your northeast and southwest,” Reynolds said.
At Sun Valley Acres Park located at Bass Boulevard and Expressway 83, residents said three units were damaged by the quick-hitting storm late Monday night and early yesterday.
No injuries were reported by residents, but yesterday morning, evidence of the storm’s powerful winds was evident.
