HARLINGEN — Bailiff Moises Rivera Jr. is on an unpaid leave of absence from his position at Cameron County’s 444th District Court after being charged with felony DWI following a single-vehicle accident in the Brownsville area two weeks ago.
Rivera, 37, was charged with intoxication assault following the March 25 incident because his wife suffered injuries in the rollover crash on FM 1419 near South Browne Avenue in Brownsville, according to officials.
The charge is a third-degree felony. Rivera’s wife was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, however, whether she received treatment is unclear. Hospital officials said yesterday they had no record that she had been admitted.
The trooper’s report indicated that her injuries were non-incapacitating.
Judge David Sanchez, who presides over the 444th District Court, said he hasn’t discussed the charges with Rivera because they still are unresolved. As an officer of the court, he said, it would be inappropriate for him to discuss specifics about this or any other pending case with anyone who has been charged.
