HARLINGEN — It was a happy moment for Ginnik Cuevas when she rescued a dog in a Harlingen dog adoption event yesterday at PetSmart.
“I have wanted a dog for quite awhile,” Ginnik said. “It’s going to be fun having the dog.”
Ginnik, 13, from Edcouch heard about the adoption event and asked her parents to let her adopt a dog as an early birthday present.
And before her 14th birthday she picked up Sprite, a brown longhair Chihuahua.
She was all smiles as she left with Sprite in her arms yesterday.
“She saw the dog and that was it,” said Nicolas Cuerva, Ginnik’s father. “She has always liked dogs so I wanted to get her a small one.”
The pet adoption event will be taking place today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at PetSmart in Harlingen, 2317 W. Lincoln Ave.
