Two weeks after the storm that left thousands of Rio Grande Valley residents without power and caused damages and various road closures due to debris, the area is once again facing thunderstorms across the area.

The Food Bank of Rio Grande Valley is partnering up with the National Association of Letter Carriers to conduct its annual food drive this Saturday.

A Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office investigator has been placed on paid administrative leave after shooting at a 53-year-old robbery suspect who pointed an "unknown object" at the investigator at a drive-thru in rural Mission Thursday night.

Officials and entities across the Valley have been working since the storm passed to help clean up debris and ensure the safety of residents. Now, they’re working towards extending their facilities for people to properly dispose of debris and brush. 

Superintendent Carol G. Perez announced Monday evening that Mission CISD will cancel classes on Tuesday, according to a message sent to parents. 

Many residents of the Rio Grande Valley are still recovering from the vicious storm that rolled through the area late Friday evening, leaving over 150,000 people without power.

AEP Texas said on Monday morning that crews are focusing on the remaining power outages that are impacting approximately 17,000 customers who mostly reside in the Mission, McAllen and Pharr areas.

A thunderstorm that ripped through the Rio Grande Valley overnight Friday and into early Saturday morning left tens of thousands without power with no immediate relief in sight, and caused havoc in city streets, residential and business property as a deluge of rain and hail drenched the region.
