The former Delia’s Tamales employees who are suing the popular restaurant chain over claims of wage theft are now trying to add the company’s founder as a named defendant.

McALLEN — Federal agents were seen entering the Delia’s Tamales restaurant at 3400 N. 10 St. Wednesday morning.

Delia's Tamales maintained two sets of books — one for legitimate payroll checks, and another to track under-the-table cash payments — according to new details that surfaced this week in the expansive wage theft lawsuit against the popular chain eatery.

More than two dozen former employees of Delia's Tamales are suing the beloved San Juan-based company, alleging decades' worth of fraud, theft, age discrimination, retaliation and threats.

Delia's Tamales continues to grow, expanding from the Rio Grande Valley to even dishing their famous tamales at the White House. Now after nearly 30 years, the business is opening a processing plant at a $15 million cost in San Juan, where the tamales everyone has come to know and love will be made and stored.
