Sharyland Pioneer and McAllen Rowe both dropped Game 2 of their respective Region IV-5A quarterfinal best-of-three series to force a pair of Game 3s on Saturday.

Region IV-5A Quarterfinals

CORPUS CHRISTI VETERANS 13, SHARYLAND PIONEER 6: At Edinburg, the Diamondbacks (31-7, 13-1) couldn’t overcome a slow start or six errors despite rallying late against the Eagles. The series is tied 1-1 after Sharyland Pioneer won Game 1 7-1 on Thursday.

Corpus Christi Veterans jumped on Pioneer with a four-run third inning and a six-run fourth. Pioneer responded with five runs during the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Steve Quintanilla drew a bases loaded walk, two runs scored on an error and two more crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Santiago Ortiz led the Diamondbacks with a 3-for-4 game and one RBI.

Game 3 between Pioneer and Corpus Christi Veterans is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at Hebbronville High School. The winner between Pioneer and Corpus Christi Veterans will meet Buda Johnson (24-10-1, 11-5) in the Region IV-5A semifinals.

Region IV-5A Quarterfinals

CORPUS CHRISTI RAY 8, McALLEN ROWE 0: At Falfurrias, the Warriors (27-8, 13-1) were blanked by Corpus Christi Ray left-hander Keevyn Goss, who pitched a complete game shutout while allowing three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The series is tied 1-1 after Rowe won Game 1 4-3 on Thursday.

The Texans (35-4, 16-0) scored one run during each of the first three innings before adding four more during the sixth. Lucas Tinajero went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Luis Morales went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk.

The Warriors loaded the bases trailing 3-0 during the bottom of the fifth before back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning. Ruben Campos, Yahir Garcia and Ivan Salinas recorded the Warriors’ three hits.

Rowe will look to bounce back in a do-or-die Game 3. Game 3 between the Warriors and Texans is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Falfurrias High School. The winner advances to the Region IV-5A semifinals to face either New Braunfels Canyon (26-8, 12-2) or Georgetown (26-6, 8-4).
