Rivera’s Rocha signs with Central Methodist

Brownsville Rivera Raiders athlete Ramsey Rocha signed with Central Methodist University to continue his football career.

Rocha said coach Beto Leal, the Rivera football coach, sent the tape to the university in Fayette, Mo., and they obviously liked what they saw. Rocha plans on visiting the campus in June.

“I feel great,” he said. “I am honestly speechless. It is something I dreamed of as a little kid and, honestly, I have no words.”

Rocha also tore it up on the hardwood this season for Rivera, receiving first-team all-district honors. Rocha hopes to become an athletic trainer one day and will be studying with that in mind at Central Methodist.

“Great student-athlete, super hard worker and does everything the coaches ask him to do,” Rivera basketball coach Jesse Alvarez said. “I have been fortunate enough to know him since grade school at Champion Elementary. Always a hard worker, great parents behind him, he never takes a day or a play off.”

Ramsey played quarterback for the Raiders in the fall but could also play receiver, Alvarez said.

“I am extremely proud of him,” said Rocha’s father, Roberto. “This is something he has wanted ever since travel basketball. We always thought this would be a basketball signing, but then his sophomore year he really started moving towards football.”

Roberto Rocha said his son is ready to prove himself at the next level.

“I would like to thank my parents, siblings, friends and coaches, every single one of them, even the ones that were not here today,” Ramsey Rocha said. “I have worked really hard to get here.”
