Police arrested a student in Mercedes Monday morning after being told they were armed.
According to a news release from the Mercedes Police Department, school resource officers at Chacon Middle School learned about a student with a weapon at about 9:45 a.m.
“Public Safety Officers acted quickly to the incident and the student was detained. At the time all students and staff are safe,” the statement said.
According to the release, normal operations at the campus have resumed. The release doesn’t say whether the student is facing charges or what type of weapon they allegedly had.
“The Mercedes Public Safety Department would like to ensure parents that Officers acted on the information received immediately and the responsible individual was detained subsequently,” the release said.
