Double homicide suspect seeks bond

A 29-year-old Edcouch man is scheduled for a hearing Wednesday morning where his attorney will ask a judge to grant him bond on a charge of capital murder of multiple persons.

Agustin Adan Castellano has been held without bond since Dec. 31 over allegations he shot and killed 58-year-old María de la Luz Reyes, his mother-in-law, and 30-year-old Olga Guadalupe Guevera, his common-law wife. Castellano was arrested at the scene of the killings.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office apprehended him after responding to the 13000 block of Kenny Lane and finding the women, who had been shot to death.

A witness told deputies Castellano was armed with a rifle and chased Guevera inside a residence, according to a probable cause affidavit, which states the witness fled after hearing gunshots.

“Olga’s mother, María de la Luz Reyes, went to Olga’s residence to check on her, at which point (the witness) heard several more gunshots,” the affidavit states.

Another witness also went to the residence after hearing the shots.

“He saw that María was dead and saw Agustin with a rifle. He began fighting with Agustin and managed to take the rifle away,” according to the affidavit.

A motive for the killings hasn’t been stated publicly by HCSO and the affidavit doesn’t reveal one either.
