Man charged in shooting deaths of wife, mother-in-law

A Hidalgo County man is in jail without bond, accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law on New Year’s Eve.

Agustin Adan Castellano, 29, was arraigned Friday afternoon before Justice of the Peace Jason Peña of Precinct 1.

Castellano is accused of killing his common-law wife, Olga Guadalupe Guevara, 30, and his mother-in-law, María de la Luz Reyes Martinez, 58.

Aside from this incident, he was arrested one other time in the county when he was accused of driving under the influence in 2015.

Deputies responded on New Year’s Eve to a call at 9:49 p.m. of a domestic dispute involving shots fired, according to a press release. The shooting happened at the 1300 block of Kenny Lane in Donna.

Relatives told deputies Castellano shot both women.

The victims’ bodies were found with gunshot wounds. Justice of the Peace of Precinct 5 Jason Peña pronounced both women dead and ordered an autopsy, according to the county’s press release.

An investigation is still ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit and Crime Scene Specialists. Investigators spoke to witnesses who further implicated Castellano as the shooter and confirmed he was the only one involved.

Castellano, who was still at the scene, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder of multiple people.
