A Mission doctor who is also the chief medical officer and chief physician executive at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, was appointed to the Texas Medical Board.
Robert David Martinez, who also serves as the senior executive vice president of DHR Health, was appointed to the board by Gov. Greg Abbott, according to a news release issued Thursday.
Martinez is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
He also served as co-chair of the Ryan Gibson Leukemia Advocate and Research Group, a member of the Texas Alzheimer’s Association, and a member of the Texas Workforce Solutions Board of Directors.
A graduate of McAllen High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from Southern Methodist University in 1995 and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1999.
The Texas Medical Board is charged with regulating medical practices throughout the state is comprised of 19 members: nine doctors of medicine, three doctors of osteopathy and seven public members. The medical doctors on the board must be licensed to practice medicine in Texas for at least three years.
Martinez’s term on the board is set to expire on April 13, 2019.
