SAN BENITO — A bus driver for an alternative education program has been charged with showing “inappropriate” photos of himself to a 16-year-old girl.
Authorities say Victor Moran, 30, of San Benito, called the girl over to him at school and showed her the pictures of himself on his cell phone.
Moran was charged with “display of harmful material to a minor,” a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail.
A judge on Wednesday set his bond at $5,000.
The incident happened May 4 at the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program School in San Benito.
The girl is a student at the school.
Students in the program are not in detention. The school serves children ages 10 to 17 who have been expelled from their local school districts, according to a program website.
The program provides daily instruction, supervision and educational support for “high-risk students.”
A deputy constable talked to the girl on May 4, when she told him about the photographs.
“The student stated that Victor Moran showed her two inappropriate photos of himself that he had on his cell phone,” according to a statement from the office of Precinct 3 Constable Adrian Gonzalez.
The constable’s office said that when a deputy executed a search warrant for Moran’s cell phone, he found two inappropriate photos of Moran on the phone.
Rene Maldonado, director at the school, referred questions to a communications person with Southwest Key Programs.
Spokesperson Lizzie Chen said she would look into the matter.
