Donna police search for weapon used in last weekend’s shooting death

DONNA — Donna police, in conjunction with the San Juan Law Enforcement Emergency Regional Response Team SWAT team, executed an evidentiary search warrant at a home in the 400 block of Ellen Avenue Friday morning in search of the truck and gun belonging to a suspect in last weekend’s fatal shooting here.

Neither the vehicle nor weapon were found, said Donna Police Captain Rick Suarez. Police had received information that the suspect, Fidencio Castillo, had left his truck and gun at that address.

Castillo, 38, is believed to have shot Efren Quiroz Jr., 33, on March 17 outside the Stripes located at 1009 W. Frontage Road. The motive in the shooting remains unknown and Castillo remains at large.

Police issued an arrest warrant for him for a murder charge and believe he may have fled to Mexico.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Donna Crime Stoppers at (956) 464-8477 or the Donna Police Department at (956) 464-4481.
