Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two suspects believed connected to an attempted aggravated kidnapping in rural Mission last month.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office issued arrest warrants for Leonardo Romero, 17, and Javier Flores, 19.
These warrants stem from an Aug. 12 incident reported in the 2200 block of Marc Drive, according to a news release. This is where a woman was accosted by a group of armed men as the pickup truck she was in was leaving the property, according to the account she gave authorities.
“Two of the suspects pointed firearms at the truck the victim was inside, instructing them not to move,” the release states. “One of the suspects tried opening the door to the truck while ordering the victim to get out.”
Also, one of the suspects approached the woman’s uncle, who was with her in the truck, and discharged a firearm in his direction before the men fled in their vehicle.
The sheriff’s office has not released the woman’s identity.
Sigifredo Flores, 22; Erik Matamoros, 18; and Armando Becerra, 19, were charged Wednesday with attempted aggravated kidnapping, a second-degree felony, in connection with their alleged role in the incident.
Romero and Javier Flores were identified as suspects.
Deputies were called to the same rural Mission residence about a week later on Aug. 22 after receiving reports of a similar incident, according to the release.
She told deputies gunshots had been fired outside her home, forcing her to take cover to avoid being struck by bullets.
“Deputies observed numerous bullet holes and damage on the victim’s home and vehicle,” the release states.
Matamoros and Sigifredo Flores were additionally charged Sept. 13 with deadly conduct-discharge of a firearm for their alleged role in the second incident, a third-degree felony.
Victor Matamoros, 23, was charged for the same crime, and Romero is wanted for the same charge.
Sigifredo Flores, Erik Matamoros, Victor Matamoros and Becerra all remain in the Hidalgo County Detention Center on bonds ranging from $300,000 to $600,000.
