LETTERS: Don’t spend on migrants

Just a few comments regarding the situation at the U.S./Mexico border.

First, where is it written that the U.S. has an obligation to take in and pay for food, shelter etc., for anyone who claims they are fleeing violence, extreme poverty, etc., in their home country?

Second, where do so-called asylum seekers get thousands of dollars to pay human smugglers/coyotes to get them to the U.S.-Mexico border if they are escaping extreme poverty?

Also, where will illegal immigrants be placed when detention centers, military bases and hotels run out of space? My guess is that they will be placed in apartments, public housing, etc., at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.

Finally, it is a slap in the face and insult for U.S. citizens to be serving as social workers, travel agents and babysitters for people who entered this country illegally.

People need to wake up and express their opposition to such insanity.
