LETTERS: Abortion ban not supported

I believe concerned citizens must speak out whenever government is used to impose an ideology on the people, especially those who are most vulnerable. This is what Gov. Abbott has done by declaring that abortion falls under the ban on elective medical procedures.

It is not elective in the sense of cosmetic surgery or teeth whitening; for most it is a last resort to prevent serious health complications, both physical and mental.

No amount of semantic shifting turns a fetus into a baby, and the governor should stop using women’s bodies and their health as a political football. Texas government cannot claim any moral high ground because it is indifferent to the healthcare needs of the actual children of Texas.
