Fun on a bun: Rutledge Hamburgers to celebrate 100 years

When you survive 100 years you deserve a big party.

Brownsville’s Rutledge Hamburger Stand, doing business in the same enclosed alleyway on East Washington Street since 1922, is getting one.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30, everyone is invited to a free community celebration honoring the city’s most famous burger joint.

The event will feature guest speakers, chalk art, exhibits, live performances, refreshments and a whole lot of Rutledge burgers.

Rutledge Hamburger Stand, founded by John and Hilda Rutledge in 1922 and owned by Gloria Perez since 1995, is located at 1126 E. Washington St.
