A federal judge in Brownsville set bond for a San Benito Border Patrol agent accused of possessing images depicting child sexual abuse.
Eduardo Longoria Jr. appeared before Magistrate Judge Karen Betancourt in Brownsville federal court Friday morning for a detention hearing. Betancourt set bond for his release at $50,000 with a $5,000 deposit, court records show.
Attempts to reach CBP representatives to ask about the status of Longoria’s employment were not immediately successful. It is unclear at this time whether Longoria remains employed with the Border Patrol.
Noe Domingo Garza, the defendant’s attorney, was not immediately available for comment.
Longoria was arrested at his San Benito home Tuesday by special agents from the Department of Homeland Security-Office of Inspector General and Homeland Security Investigations.
Agents executed a search warrant following the complaint charging him of being in possession of more than 100 files of child sexual abuse material.
During the search of his home, agents discovered a silver-colored Samsung S24 Ultra cellphone and recovered the child sexual abuse material.
“The child pornography files were stored in a calculator photo vault application that can secretly hide photographs, videos, and other files without anyone knowing as the application is disguised as a calculator,” the complaint stated.
