A 31-year-old Mission man was ordered to spend 10 years in prison following his conviction on two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District Court.
Esteban Alementor-Lopez pleaded guilty March 1, 2021 and Dec. 20, 2022 for the two separate charges. He was ordered to serve nearly six years for the initial drug trafficking followed by slightly over four years for the subsequent conviction.
In November 2020, authorities conducted an operation which involved communication with a Mexican drug source.
According to the release, the organization was to deliver large amounts of meth into the Rio Grande Valley meant for transport to Chicago.
Almentor-Lopez transported a total of 88 pounds of meth in Mission on two separate occasions of which he was arrested for, but was granted bond.
He then pled guilty for those charges on March 1, however, the following day, law enforcement apprehended him transporting and delivering over four pounds of meth for the same drug organization
According to the release, the methamphetamine Almentor-Lopez trafficked had a purity level of 100%.
Almentor-Lopez remains in custody pending a transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility which will be determined on a later date.
