Early voting begins in Cameron County as polls officially open

Early voting for the Nov. 7 Special Joint Election is under way in Cameron County as of Monday, with city elections, tax rate propositions and state constitutional amendments on the ballot for voters to decide.

Hours at all early voting locations are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 23-27 and Oct. 30-Nov. 1; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28-29; and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 2-3. Early voting runs through Nov. 3.

On the ballot are two school district tax-ratification propositions, for the Brownsville Independent School District and the Point Isabel Independent School District, along with 14 constitutional amendments.

Also, Juan Sierra and Kevin Michael Montes are vying for the Board of Trustees Place 3 seat, and Jesus “Toy” Amaya is running unopposed for Place 4, in the Los Fresnos Consolidated ISD General Election. In the city of Los Fresnos General Election, Alejandro Flores and Rosa Munoz Vallejo are on the ballot for mayor, while Albert “Al” Escobedo and Joe C. Macias are competing for the Place 3 council seat.

South Padre Island Mayor Patrick McNulty is running unopposed to remain in that office, while Rees Langston and Tally Ragsdale are vying for Place 4 on the city council.

The City of Santa Rosa holds a special election for Proposition A, which would adopt a four-year term for mayor and aldermen “providing that the term of the mayor and aldermen currently elected shall remain at three years; and further providing that at each subsequent election … the term to be voted upon shall be four years.”
