A Brownsville man is in police custody after he “walked up to and stabbed” a 45-year-old resident who uses a wheelchair, according to Brownsville Police Department’s Public Information Officer Martin Sandoval.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of East Monroe Street where the victim was sitting at the corner of an intersection when “the suspect walked up to him and stabbed him,” Sandoval said in a Facebook Live post.

The victim was stabbed in the arm and taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police initially asked the public to clear the area as they sought after the suspect who was then caught shortly after after Sandoval uploaded the first Facebook Live regarding the incident.

The investigator said that the suspect will be arraigned Tuesday morning where his identity and additional details regarding the stabbing will be released.
