A 49-year-old Edinburg man is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in town Friday evening.

The city of Edinburg said in a news release Saturday that police responded to the 1000 block of East University Drive at around 10:59 p.m. Friday and found that the cyclist had been struck by a vehicle, which authorities did not describe.

Officials did say, however, that the cyclist may have internal injuries and was transported to DHR Health, “where he remains in critical condition.”

The city referred to the case as an “ongoing investigation” and that charges have not been filed against the driver of the vehicle that hit the cyclist.

The identities of the cyclist and driver are also unclear.
