Applications are open for a $1,000 scholarship being offered by Futuro RGV to undergraduate and graduate college students from the Rio Grande Valley.
According to a release, the Emerging Leaders Scholarship is open to individuals enrolled in a two or four-year college either full or part-time, or individuals enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program full-time.
The release says applicants must have a minimum 2.7 college GPA and at least 12 college credit hours, including dual enrollment, advanced placement or international baccalaureate credits.
“As a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of our region, Futuro RGV aims to equip an emerging leader with the resources to complete their education,” Futuro RGV president Dr. Nedra Kinerk wrote. “We want to empower changemakers in the Rio Grande Valley.”
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents who have a permanent address in the Valley, the release says. The deadline to apply is Aug. 10 before midnight, after which finalists will be contacted for an interview.
“Supporting a student’s educational journey is a key way to improving the quality of life of our region,” Futuro RGV board member Thomas Ray Garcia wrote. “Scholarships also serve as gateways for greater opportunities, such as ongoing mentorship and an expanded professional network.”
