San Benito teen killed in early morning crash; driver seriously injured

San Benito police are investigating an early morning single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a teenager.

According to a news release, police were dispatched to the 600 block of South McCulloch Street at approximately 2:06 a.m. Monday.

Once there, police found a white 2010 Cadillac Escalade that had rolled over before coming to a stop in the front yard of a residence located on South McCulloch Street.

“Officers made contact with a male lying just a few feet from the vehicle,” the release read. “The male, who was identified as 20-year-old Eduardo Perez Zamora, a San Benito resident, stated he was the driver and had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash.”

Police found a male passenger lying unresponsive in the backseat of the Escalade. He was identified as 18-year-old Jaime Abraham Samaneigo of San Benito.

San Benito Fire Department and EMS arrived to assist in removing Samaneigo from the vehicle, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Zamora, the driver, was seriously injured in the crash, He was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment. This case is still currently under investigation.
