The 33-year-old Alamo man arrested in the fatal motorcycle crash near the Val Verde Flea Market last week in Donna previously spent time in prison for hitting and killing a man more than a decade ago.

Freddy Lozano Lerma

Donna police charged Freddy Lozano Lerma with intoxication manslaughter over allegations that he hit 41-year-old Ricardo Torres who was driving a white Suzuki motorcycle at 6:33 a.m. on June 14 at 935 Business 83.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Lerma told police he was driving the white Ford Ranger that hit and killed Torres and police said they observed signs of intoxication.

He agreed to participate in a standardized field sobriety test, which he failed, according to the affidavit.

This is not the first time Lerma has been charged with hitting and killing someone.

On Nov. 17, 2010, he was convicted of manslaughter for hitting and killing Serveo Marroquin Jr on June 4, 2010.

He had initially been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence for trying to conceal the vehicle, but ultimately was convicted of manslaughter.

Lerma was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He also has several recent arrests.

In November of last year, the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested him for driving while intoxicated and last month Alamo police arrested him on charges of stalking and criminal trespass.

He remains jailed in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a total of $22,500 in bonds.
