McAllen police last week arrested a 35-year-old Peñitas man last week for allegations that he drove drunk and killed a man during an early morning crash at State Highway 107 and Ware Road.

Authorities have charged Roberto Vasquez Bolanos with intoxication manslaughter for the crash that killed 26-year-old David De La Torre Martinez.

A probable cause for Bolanos’ arrest said that McAllen police responded to a three-vehicle crash on May 29 where the responding officer found the man’s blue Mazda X9 in the middle of the eastbound lane.

One of the people involved in the crash told the responding officer that the driver of the Mazda was drunk, according to the affidavit, which said Bolanos appeared to be disoriented and spoke in a slurred voice.

Martinez was in the third vehicle in the crash and was unconscious and covered in blood, according to the affidavit.

Police said in that document that Bolanos failed field sobriety tests and claimed he was on his way to his mother’s house in McAllen after having two beers and a shot.

He remains held in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
