A 38-year-old Donna man pleaded guilty Wednesday to fatally stabbing a 65-year-old woman multiple times on Feb. 25, 2021, court records show.

Following the killing of Rosalinda Garcia, San Juan police arrested Moises Herrera-Peña on charges of murder.

Herrera-Peña was also charged with tampering with evidence over allegations he threw the knife he used in the murder into a trash can after leaving the residence located in the 1200 block of East Texas Avenue.

According to San Juan police, they responded to the residence at about 3:40 p.m. that day where they found Garcia’s body and determined that she had been murdered.

Herrera-Peña was arrested after police obtained a description of a Chevrolet Silverado or a GMC Sierra extended pickup truck which they believed was connected to the crime, according to the probable cause affidavit.

“Investigators obtained information that led them to a Chevrolet pick-up truck registered to Moises Herrera-Peña in Donna, TX, which matched the description,” the affidavit said.

Police said they eventually found the vehicle parked outside a private business along Business 83 in Alamo where they detained Herrera-Peña who confessed to stabbing Garcia multiple times.

Additionally, police said they found Herrera-Peña’s phone number in Garcia’s cellular data.

Herrera-Peña is scheduled to be sentenced in late August.
