Mission police on Thursday night shot a man dead following a domestic disturbance there.

Chief Cesar Torres said police responded to a residence near Stewart Road and Vatia Boulevard at around 11 p.m. after a woman called police to say her husband shot her.

Torres said police responded and found his truck in the area of Stewart Road and pursued the vehicle, which went into the oncoming lane.

The unidentified hit a vehicle driven by another woman, who was critically injured and taken to a hospital.

The man was then shot and killed by police.

His wife was also taken to the hospital.

The unidentified officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the investigation, which is standard protocol.

Torres said no officers were injured.

“In our line of work sometimes these things happen,” Torres said. “The last thing we want to see is loss of life.”

Torres said he expects to release more information on Monday.
