Jorge Arredondo

PSJA ISD could find out who the permanent replacement for former superintendent Jorge Arredondo is before the week’s out.

The district’s board was set to interview candidates for the position at a special meeting Friday, although that meeting was canceled sometime Thursday.

At another special meeting Saturday, trustees will discuss the position and may name a lone finalist for it.

Arredondo departed the district in November on the heels of a power shift on the board.

Trustees replaced him with Alejandro Elias as interim, who remains in that post.

Elias was known as the principal of Early College High School, a position he exited after publicly breaking with the district’s administration over a reassignment that would have moved him to central office — a spat that included some legal action.

Since being made interim, Elias has helped the board launch a forensic audit meant, at least in part, to provide trustees with a snapshot of district operations.
