The Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a “Mommy and Me” event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Center, 315 E. Mark S. Pena Drive.
The event promises fun-filled activities and bonding experiences for mothers and their children, things like arts and crafts, sing-alongs, dances, games, movies and more.
“The Mommy and Me Event is free and open to all residents of Edinburg and neighboring communities,” a release read. “Participants are encouraged to bring their enthusiasm to make the most of this heartwarming occasion.”
More activities are in store in Edinburg for Sunday.
The Museum of South Texas History is hosting their “Mother’s Day at the Museum” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
“Visitors can handwrite a letter to their mothers at the letter writing station. Complementary paper, envelopes and postage stamps will be provided, which means letter writers can snail mail a heartfelt thank you to their mothers anywhere in the country,” a release read. “To complement this activity, read two letter samples written by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt. Alfredo ‘Freddy’ González, who sent letters to his mother, Dolia González, while on two military tours during the Vietnam War.”
The Texas Sweethearts and Mariachi Nueva Tradición are slated to play in the museum’s courtyard at 2 p.m.; dancing is encouraged.
There will also be a photo booth with free prints that can be taken home or digital copies to share.
“Admission to the museum includes music performances, letter writing activity and a self-guided tour of the Rio Grande Legacy exhibitions,” the release read.
Another event for the weekend is on tap in McAllen.
On Saturday, the McAllen Heritage Center will present a conjunto concert in the park.
The event, located at La Placita Park at the center, is expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. and runs through 3 p.m.
In addition to music, there will be goodies and refreshments.
