PHARR — The city of Pharr has decided on another four years of Ambrosio Hernandez.

Hernandez defeated former Pharr Chief of Police and City Manager Andy Harvey and Ricardo “Rick” Pedraza during Saturday’s May 6 local entities election.

Hernandez arrived at his victory party at Smokin’ Moon BBQ Saturday evening, and he was immediately greeted with applause and chants of “Four more years!”

Speaking amid the celebrations, Hernandez said that he was excited to have another four years in office and expressed gratitude to his supporters.

“I’m feeling great,” Hernandez said. “I’m really delighted, excited, full of emotions, all positive feelings.”

The mayor said that he was hopeful that Pharr residents would give him a third term in office and the opportunity to live up to his campaign slogan of moving Pharr forward.

“I have put forward a platform with my team, that we are indeed your team for the city of Pharr to move the bar forward, and to continue on our legacy to keep Pharr as a complete city moving in the right direction,” Hernandez said. “I am so honored to be awarded that trust by them, and I will not let them down again.”

Hernandez garnered 1,876 votes for 63.9% of the vote to Harvey, who received 943 votes cast for him for 32.15% of the vote.

Pedraza, meanwhile, received 114 votes for 3.89%.

Hernandez has served as mayor for the city of Pharr since 2015.

Harvey served as Chief of Police for the city of Pharr from July 13, 2020, to Sep. 12, 2023.

During that time, he also held a brief stint as the Pharr’s city manager April 22, 2022, to Sep. 6, 2023, when he announced his resignation at a regularly called meeting of the board of commissioners.

The race for Place 1 on the city commissioner has incumbent Eleazar Guajardo going up against Edgar Rincon and Michael Pacheco.

Pacheco unseated Guajardo with 1,474 votes for 50.74% of the vote. Guajardo had 813 ballots cast for him for 27.99% of the vote. Rincon, meanwhile, garnered 21.27% of the vote with 618 ballots cast in his name.

Place 5 Commissioner Ricardo Medina and Place 6 Commissioner Itza Flores ran unopposed.
