Personal injury attorney J. Gonzalez has announced plans to open a new office in Harlingen, and with it, a commitment to expand his law firm’s support of the area’s community projects.

Gonzalez plans to open his Harlingen office at 1151 S. Expressway 83 in late April, with a formal grand opening slated for May 5.

“I bought some land there in 2008, because I felt there was a need that had to be met,” Gonzalez said. “The opening will be the culmination of a 15-year vision, so I’m excited about that.”

Gonzalez, who grew up as a migrant farmworker to become a top-rated, award-winning personal injury attorney, has had a long-standing passion to help others achieve their life goals. Gonzalez says his offices in McAllen, Rio Grande City, Weslaco, and Brownsville have allowed him greater immersion in those cities’ projects, adding he wants to do the same in Harlingen.

“We’ve already done some things there, but we’ve been lacking in our involvement in Harlingen,” Gonzalez noted. “Having an office there invites local businesses, non-profits, school districts, and other people to come in and personally meet with me or my staff. We do everything from fund raisers to speaking appearances. I love talking to students about the importance of education.”

Gonzalez adds that in the past his Harlingen-area clients have had to drive to Brownsville or Weslaco for a face-to-face meeting. Having an office in Harlingen, he says, will ease the burden on them as well as clients in Willacy County.

“Personal injury victims already have to cope with the trauma and expense of their physical and emotional recovery,” Gonzalez pointed out. “They don’t need the additional burden of having to drive a long distance to meet with their attorney. I feel it’s essential that I be as close to my clients as possible, and this will allow me to do that for people in Harlingen.”

Gonzalez has been a practicing attorney since 2000. He completed an internship under Federal Judge Edward C. Prado during his second year of law school at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Gonzalez was born and raised in McAllen, received his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas Pan American, and was a former teacher at La Joya ISD.
