McALLEN — With summer right around the corner, the city of McAllen is hoping its newest park amenity will help make a splash.
The city of McAllen broke ground Tuesday morning on its third splash pad. The new addition will be among the amenities available at the McAllen Youth Baseball Complex located at 8201 N. 29th in McAllen.
The $205,000, 1,000-square-foot project will include a sea animal theme, as well as ten water elements such as a whale tail, water weaver, sneaky spin soaker and spray tunnels, according to Denny Meline, parks and recreation director for the city of McAllen.
Meline hopes to receive materials for the splash pad in early May with construction beginning shortly after. He explained that construction is scheduled to take about eight weeks and conclude around middle to end of July.
The new splash pad will be among three splash pads available in McAllen with the other two located at Zinnia Park and the Palm View Community Center.
According to Meline, however, this isn’t the only splash pad being added to the city’s parks. In fact, he hopes they will open another splash pad in Curtis Park.
“It’s just another opportunity for the kids to come out and beat the heat,” Meline said.
