If you were wondering how many people are a fan of onions, specifically the 1015 onions, get a load of this.
The city of Weslaco and Weslaco Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated its annual Texas Onion Fest, where attendees could enjoy the famous onion blossoms, live music, a car show, and other activities.
This year, the festival which was held March 25 saw more than 25,000 people in attendance — a record-breaking number according to a Weslaco chamber news release Friday.
The event is annual and celebrates the development of the 1015 onion, which gets its name from the Oct. 15 planting date, and which is also called the sweet Texas onion, in Weslaco.
This year’s event also included the debut viewing of a documentary featuring the onion’s development in Weslaco, as well as all the fried food, music and family fun often associated with the festival.
